This story is on Wired, Gadget Lab, and its the many posted comments that are most interesting. Some from book scanners that simply cut the pages out and use auto feed on existing cheap scanners, and one from a Russian guy who programmed the software needed to translate the scans into PDF book format. These confirm that do it yourself book scanning is already a big reality,and growing. Among the cited reasons, besides the convenience of e-books, are the high costs of college text books, and the failures of publishers to meet the needs of the handicapped, i.e. the blind, eager for more voice content.
