Calculus Defn


Calculus, n, A method of analysis or calculation using a special symbolic notation. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz devised one such system, the integral calculus, which has been so wildly successful as to be most people's only contact with a "calculus." But other, more obscure, calculi have also flourished at times; the lambda calculus of Alonzo Church being perhaps the most well-known.
